Water Twin for Crisis Preparedness - Sweden Water Research

Water Twin for Crisis Preparedness

Using digital twins, we aim to manage preparedness and crisis situations in a safe and efficient manner for decision-makers, operational staff, and customer service personnel within the water industry.

Initially, the focus is on the needs of the end users, as well as gathering the legal and security frameworks that a digital twin must adhere to. This is followed by an iterative technical development process to enable early testing of parts of a new service in a real-world environment, thereby identifying challenges and obstacles before development has progressed too far. A plan for market introduction and integration with business partners’ existing services will be established and implemented in the second half of the project.

The expectation is that the water industry will be able to make data-driven decisions based on real-time data, which is refined into information for decision-makers to use in crisis situations and to optimise existing infrastructure. An increased level of knowledge will contribute to the faster implementation of other digital services, while ensuring safer and more efficient management of drinking water during crises. This will create an enhanced Swedish export potential while positioning Sweden as a leader.

The goal is to develop a future digital service that can be used as support in preparedness planning for and decision-making during societal disruptions, such as pollution spread, interruptions, leaks, or sabotage. The service will be tailored for a global market and position Sweden as a leader in the field.
