We can now begin sampling the wetland in the Värpinge pilot!
During week 35, construction began on the first parts of the pilot in Värpinge, as part of the ISWIM project. This means we can now measure and monitor the flow of stormwater and the pollutants entering the stormwater facility.
Throughout the week, Ronja was assisted by Peter Rosander, a technician from Luleå University of Technology, in installing flow meters, samplers, and control cables at the inlet, enabling coordinated sampling at both the beginning and end of the pre-sedimentation pond. To support this, we also installed a sampler at the overflow between the pre-sedimentation pond and the wetland. To monitor the wetland’s purification effect, an additional flow meter and sampler were installed at the outlet. With this setup, we can now follow up on the purification capacity of both the pre-sedimentation and the wetland.
As a first step, flow was measured during both dry periods and rainfall events to gain an overview of flow variations under different weather conditions. This is very exciting and provides insight into how much water actually enters the system.
Installation of the pilot will continue throughout the autumn with automation, pumps, and the assembly of various filter systems. So the work continues!
