Transnational fieldtrip:

Join us for a day of inspiring site visits and knowledge exchange in Malmö and Lund, southern Sweden. Organised as part of the Interreg North Sea Region-funded DISCO project, the programme showcases innovative digital solutions for climate adaptation, stormwater management and smart water management.

You are welcome to participate in the full programme, including the morning bus transfer from Malmö. Prefer a shorter visit? You can also join us at lunchtime in Lund and take part in the second part of the programme only.

PROGRAM PART 1 | Malmö 08.30–11.00

08:30 Bus transfer from central Malmö (exact location tba) to Sege Park, a former hospital site being transformed into a sustainable urban district with climate-smart and circular solutions, and a pilot area within the DISCO project.

08:45-11:00 Site visits in Sege Park

  • Röda Oasen — A co-housing project where residents share amenities and resources. Collected rainwater is reused for toilet flushing and washing machines.
  • Parkering Malmö garage — Water is stored in an underground reservoir and used to irrigate the building’s green walls.
  • MKB Stockrosen — An apartment complex where rooftop rainwater is collected in an underground tank and used for irrigation and outdoor cleaning. Each household has individual meters for water and electricity use.

You will also hear from the City of Malmö about the transformation of the area as a whole — including data on water consumption and resident attitudes towards using non-potable water alternatives.

12:30 Site visits in Lund

  • Forecast-based stormwater control — A testbed with a pond and a lake where weather forecasts and predictive data are used to manage stormwater proactively. When heavy rainfall is expected, water is released in advance to create extra storage capacity, preventing the drainage system from being overwhelmed.
  • Värpinge Wetland — A constructed wetland designed to filter out pollutants including metals, nutrients, and organic substances from stormwater. The adjacent test site enables real-condition trials of different treatment techniques before they are scaled up in urban environments.

  • HeatSafe. How the City of Malmö is using sensors to gain a better understanding of temperatures in residential care homes and whether, and how, heat affects water consumption.
  • Jesper Knutsson from Chalmers University of Technology on ten years of research at the HSB Living Lab.
  • Opti-SITE. Combines AI, optimisation methods and high-resolution radar data to identify where nature-based solutions deliver the greatest benefits.
  • Win Water. Helps new innovations get faster access to the water market.
