Measuring equipment procured for Ellinge Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Swiss company Upwater will supply a system for measuring the exhaust air from nine aerated zones at Ellinge Wastewater Treatment Plant.

As a key part of VA SYD’s efforts to reduce the climate impact of its operations, the municipal association is now beginning to equip its wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with systems to measure nitrous oxide from their aerated biological treatment tanks. In 2021, VA SYD installed custom-built equipment at the Klagshamn WWTP. It is now time to move forward with the other major WWTPs within VA SYD.

Today, there are suppliers offering complete systems for measuring exhaust air from aerated tanks with floating hoods. Furthermore, these companies each have more than 12 installations each at WWTPs across Europe.

In March this year, a tender was announced to measure nitrous oxide, methane, carbon dioxide and oxygen in the exhaust air from nine different aerated tanks at the Ellinge WWTP in Eslöv. The ceiling price for the investment, including installation, was SEK 900,000. The plant has a load of approximately 80,000 population equivalents and receives around 70% of its industrial load from Orkla Foods.

Swiss company Upwater was awarded the contract, and the equipment is expected to be operational by early June.
