Pesticides in Groundwater
In many municipalities, water supply is based on groundwater occurrences located near the consumer.
In Denmark, water supply is largely based on groundwater, and an increasing number of pesticides and other substances are found in the groundwater used for drinking water. These substances have been used to combat weeds, fungi, and insects since the 1950s.
Pesticide residues have also been detected in groundwater sources in some of the NSVA municipalities. Therefore, this project will investigate which processes can be used to remove, among other things, pesticides and PFAS. This would ensure operation so that even smaller waterworks can maintain the production of drinking water.
The project aims to monitor the state of knowledge on both the problems and possible techniques for removing, among other things, pesticides and PFAS. In a next step, a pilot plant could be developed and tested as part of a “proof of concept” together with NSVA.
