Congratulations Ellinor!
Today, Ellinor Frank successfully defended her thesis ”Microbial Source Tracking for Bathing Water Quality Assessment: E. coli and Bacterial Communities in Coastal Environment”.
Ellinor has been an industrial PhD student at Sweden Water Research and, as of today, holds a doctorate in Technical Water Resources at Lund University of Technology.
As an industrial PhD student, Ellinor was part of the Urban Swimming project. She investigated the source of poor bathing water quality using DNA sequencing of bacterial communities in seawater and sediment. Her research has focused on:
- Whether bacterial levels in sediment from historical sewer overflows, or other sources such as “regular” treated wastewater discharge, affect bathing water quality
- How microbial communities change over several years in sediment and bathing water
- Whether specific sources of faecal bacteria in sediment and bathing water can be identified
