Lund Serves as a Testbed for Sustainable Water Transition

The technology for water reuse already exists. The focus is now on governance, the allocation of responsibilities, and incentives that can make it easier to use the right water for the right purpose.

Using Lund as a testbed, the new project, Policy Lab for Urban Water Transition, will develop practical tools and models to help municipalities and water utilities plan for water reuse and make more long-term decisions. A key starting point is to identify changes that can be implemented within existing regulatory frameworks, without having to wait for legislative changes.

The aim of the project is to accelerate the transition towards a future where water reuse is a natural part of sustainable urban development. The project will produce practical tools for municipalities and water utilities.

Policy Lab for Urban Water Transition is led by Sweden Water Research in collaboration with Lund Municipality, Lund University, and stakeholders across the water sector. The goal is to develop knowledge and working methods that can be applied throughout Sweden.
